(AP) ? Florida went 0-for-October last season, with humbling losses to Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia.

It bothered coaches and players for a year.

It motivated them, too.

A year later, the Gators have a chance to end the month with a division title.

"I like this better," coach Will Muschamp said. "So does everybody else."

Jeff Driskel threw four touchdown passes ? three of them after turnovers ? and the third-ranked Gators matched their win total from 2011 with a 44-11 drubbing of No. 9 South Carolina on Saturday.

The Gators avenged consecutive losses to the Gamecocks, including one a couple of years ago that ended with Steve Spurrier and his players celebrating a division title in The Swamp.

"We remember the feeling, how bad it hurt," center Jon Harrison said. "We even had guys getting emotional over it. We just used that as pure motivation to come out here and completely dominate this team."

Florida's latest whatever-it-takes win kept Muschamp's team undefeated and put it on the cusp of the Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division title. The Gators (7-0, 6-0 SEC) can clinch a spot in the league's championship game by beating No. 13 Georgia next week in nearby Jacksonville.

Florida won this one with turnovers, stellar defense and more halftime adjustments ? the kind of successful tweaks that are making Muschamp and his staff seem like the right fit in Gainesville.

The Gators finished 7-6 last season, barely avoiding the program's first losing season since 1979. The struggles had outsiders questioning whether Muschamp could get Florida back to national prominence.

He's got the team there now ? even if it hasn't always been pretty.

The Gators managed just 29 yards and two first downs in the first half against South Carolina (6-2, 4-2). But they led 21-6 thanks to three turnovers.

Loucheiz Purifoy knocked the ball out of Connor Shaw's hands on the first play. Lerentee McCray recovered, giving Florida the ball at the 2-yard line. Driskel hooked up with Jordan Reed on third down, putting the Gators up early.

It also was a sign of things to come for the Gamecocks, who had trouble holding onto the ball all afternoon.

Ace Sanders fumbled on a punt return that led to Driskel's second TD pass. He found Quinton Dunbar for a 13-yard score. Dunbar spun out of DeVonte Holloman's grasp before coasting across the goal line.

On the ensuing kickoff, Solomon Patton forced Damiere Byrd to fumble. Chris Johnson picked it up and nearly scored. He was stopped at the 1, setting up Driskel's third TD pass to Reed. Driskel faked a handoff and found Reed alone in the back of the end zone, which made it 21-3.

"I'd rather have 1 yard in front of me than 75," Driskel said.

South Carolina failed to generate much offense. In fact, the Gamecocks managed two field goal in the first half thanks to penalties and returned a blocked extra point for two points in the third quarter.

Shaw completed 9 of 20 passes for 72 yards. He was benched in the second half, replaced by Dylan Thompson. Thompson completed 8 of 20 passes for 83 yards, with an interception.

"Coach Spurrier told me at halftime we were going to make the change," Shaw said. "He told me I wasn't getting the job done. I was completely supportive of him. Bottom line today, we just didn't execute."

The Gators put the game away by scoring on all three possessions in the third quarter, getting a 6-yard TD run by Omarius Hines, a field goal and a 6-yard pass from Driskel to Frankie Hammond Jr.

They made South Carolina's defensive front, which dominated in the first half, look suspect. They also better controlled standout end pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney, who gave them fits early. And they kept South Carolina off balance with creative play-calling that included tight end Trey Burton in the wildcat.

"It was embarrassing for us, very embarrassing to lose," Spurrier said. "We've got to reevaluate a lot of our personnel and get players out there who really want to play for South Carolina. Two weeks ago, I wouldn't have thought this. We had a bad one today. LSU was bad (last week). This one was worse. We've got to regroup somehow."

Driskel completed 11 of 16 passes for 93 yards. Mike Gillislee ran 19 times for 37 yards. Reed caught four passes for 44 yards.

Florida's defense and special teams were much more impressive.

The Gators held South Carolina to 191 yards, including minus-1 in the third quarter. Marcus Lattimore, who didn't start because of a hip injury, ran just three times for 13 yards. And Florida dominated every aspect of special teams. In addition to the two forced fumbles, Kyle Christy had seven punts of at least 50 yards.

"We're on our way to being what Florida used to be, what Florida's known for," Harrison said. "We hope to accomplish that this season."

Menopause Or Dr Jeckyll And Mr Hyde

Menopause, there I said it. Menopause, no one likes to talk about it. Why? It's spoken in hushed tones like maybe it catchy.

Menopause symptoms affect all women to some degree. It is just another phase of life. I admit it is not a pleasant one. But it has to be dealt with and we women have to choose how. I am about 8 years in and most of my symptoms have faded. I still get hot flashes, but not as often. I still have PMS symptoms, bloating, irritability, cramps, but I use Midol or off-brand medication and that helps. After a couple of years of heavy menstrual cycles, I haven't had a menstrual cycle in almost a year. Yaa.

The most common symptoms of menopause are hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings

And as if that isn't enough to deal with, there are changes to your body. You will find yourself more fatigued, you may have hair loss, sleeping more than 2 hours at a time will be a miracle. If you thought you were forgetful, just wait. Retaining water, leaking, body odor, oh, the fun of it all.

Just as with PMS, you may have increased anxiety, depression, and irritability. Aches and pains will get worse also. Joint pain, breast pain, headaches, itchy skin, (Benadryll spray will help with this) There could also be tummy upsets, tingling in your hands and feet.

But don't panic, you may or may not have all these symptoms. And hopefully not at the same time. I try to keep a positive attitude. It's a little hard, I admit, after spending twenty minutes hunting for my lost car keys, and then I find them attached to my purse. Which I toted around the house, while looking for my keys. Have you done something similar?

In my opinion, the hot flashes, have been the hardest to deal with. I have used Black cohosh, Estogen(over the counter),travel-size moist towelettes to ease my discomfort. Mood swing are not so much fun, either. They sneek up on you just like the hot flashes. I have been lucky that my mood swings have been fairly mild. All I can say is, be prepared to apologize to friends, family and co-workers, because there is no controlling when and where mood swings happen.

Things you can do to have with the symptoms:

1. Get plenty of sleep.

2. If you smoke, quit. It aggravates the symptoms.

3. Wear lighter material clothes.

4. Avoid spicy foods,caffeine,and alcohol.

5. Use a fan at bedtime.

6. Regular exercise.

7. HRT- Hormone Replacement Therapy(talk to your doctor about this).

And always remember, menopause doesn't last forever. Talk with your family members about menopause and its symptoms, so we you have a Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde moment, they will be prepared somewhat. Talking to other women going thru the same thing will help (the no one understands) feelings.

Make sure to discuss all symptoms with your doctor, so they can let you know your options for dealing with them.

Taiwan enters island fray, but China and Japan shrug

Boats from China and Japan chased each other around a set of disputed islets, setting off a diplomatic crisis. But when Taiwan entered the fray, neither side seemed to care.

If it were another country, Taiwan would be in hot diplomatic water.

The government in Taipei said last week it wanted to be a peacemaker in a sovereignty dispute involving a set of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea. Boats from China and Japan had chased each other around the islets they both claim, setting off mass protests in China that sent Sino-Japanese relations to a new low.

Then this week, Taiwan stopped talking about peace as 12 of its coast guard vessels escorted some 50 Taiwanese fishing boats to the islets, a sort passive-aggressive reminder of its own claim to islets that are 137 miles from Taiwan. Japan controls the islands, which it calls the Senkakus, and sprayed water cannons at Taiwan?s boats to keep them away.

But instead of setting off a diplomatic crisis, no one appears to be taking Taiwan too seriously ? at least not yet.

As far as China is concerned Taiwan is still part of China even though a Nationalist Party set up a rival government in Taipei after losing the Chinese civil war to the Communists in the 1940s. Beijing believes it will capture Taiwan someday even though the two sides are now self-ruled. By that logic any new territory Taiwan locks in would eventually go to China anyway.

At the same time, Japan and Taiwan can hardly live without each other. The former World War II colonizer is today one of Taiwan?s top five sources of tourism. Common Taiwanese take fashion, food, and shopping cues from peers in Tokyo while a strong contingent of conservative Japanese lawmakers who dislike communist China embraces Taiwan as a friendly fellow democracy.

?Japan is probably the only country in the world that attaches strategic importance to Taiwan,? says Bonnie Glaser, a senior fellow with the CSIS Freeman Chair in China Studies.

But Taiwan?s leadership neither expects to conquer the tiny islets nor broker a peace deal. President Ma Ying-jeou?s government is, instead, intent on using the issue to fulfill an often failed, 4-year-old domestic pledge: expand clout among major world nations through informal ties usually described as soft power.?

China forbids its 170-plus diplomatic allies from engaging Taiwan directly. But Taiwan may hope its idea to be a regional peacemaker?will stimulate scholarly debate in the United States, putting Taipei on the map of high-level academic conferences, says Alexander Huang, strategic studies professor with Tamkang University in Taiwan. ?Ma has taken at least an initiative and a moral high ground,? Mr. Huang says.

Taiwan has also avoided bashing China with heated language (letting Japan handle that) over the disputed islets, though they make separate claims. That puts the two sides in the same boat as seen from Beijing. ?It embraces the one-China concept in Beijing?s eyes,? Mr. Huang adds.

That edge will make China happier, and Taiwan wealthier, when the two sides bargain over trade tariffs or investment rules.?

Making good on that pledge to expand clout matters now as President Ma Ying-jeou sees approval ratings of just 15 to 25 percent this year so far because of domestic issues such as rising prices and stubborn wages. Term limits would stop Mr. Ma from seeking a new term in 2016, but his Nationalist Party could inherit any approval problems he leaves behind.
